Practical Advice and Guidance

Town Pastors provide practical advice to help people navigate the town centre safely and get home. We will use our local knowledge to try to help you whenever we can.

Common questions we answer

“Where can I get a taxi?”

We can direct you to the nearest taxi rank and, if necessary, help you call a taxi.

“Is there anywhere I can get food?”

We can tell you which takeaways and restaurants are open late.

“How do I get to…?”

We can provide directions and advice on the safest route.

“Have you seen my friends?”

We can help you try to locate your friends or contact them.

What we don’t do

We don’t provide:

  • Legal advice — but we’ll try to help you get assistance from the Police if you think you’ve been the victim of a crime
  • Medical advice — although we have emergency first aid training and carry some basic equipment
  • Professional counselling — we’re always willing to listen but we’re not trained therapists

We will try to signpost you to appropriate services if we can’t help you directly.

Take a look at our help and support resources guide for details of other organisations that may be able to help.

Ask us anything

Our volunteers are approachable and happy to help. If you see us on patrol, don’t hesitate to ask for help or advice.
